Life After Death: Give My Regards To Satan

When I was a little boy, everyone around me used to say that bad people go to hell. It left me with a strong impression that I must count all the terrible things I did during the day and pray for forgiveness before I go to sleep at night. Another requirement was to occasionally confess all my sins to a priest so that absolution can be granted to my poor and unenlightened little soul. It was dreadful.

As the years went by, I began to slowly realize that I wasn’t earning any points to go to heaven. Everything I did seem to work totally against me. I was learning foul language, studying the private parts of other kids as well as my own (pretty exciting), disobeying my parents, and so on. Needless to say, I was becoming a bad boy.

It didn’t take long before I noticed the peculiarity. “Jesus Christ, this is ridiculous...” I uttered in frustration as I glanced at my imaginary list of bad deeds, which regrettably surpassed the length of Rapunzel’s hair. It may not mean anything to someone else, but to me it was an epiphany.

After that, I started to wonder if consciousness can really survive after the death of the body and if there’s a possibility for us to know the states of consciousness that belong to the afterlife without dying. Hence, I explored, and with the same amount of excitement I had for private parts, I found seven categories as to how various religions perceive life after death.

1. Heaven or Eternal Paradise

Your soul finds itself in a perfected world surrounding God. You go to Paradise as a reward and never leave. If you are bad, you go to Satan’s bachelor pad where he slaps you from behind each day and night while whispering to your ear, “You like that, huh?”

2. The Godhead

God exists in three persons. The three persons of the Godhead possess identical attributes. They are one in substance and one in essence, and therefore, they are one God. Your soul returns to God, but not in any particular place. You discover the location of God as a timeless state infused with his presence. Amen? Amen!

3. The Spirit World

Your soul rests in a realm of departed spirits. You are drawn back to those you loved in this life or, if not, you rejoin your ancestors who are gathered with the great spirit. You see dead people, walking around like regular people. Then there’s Bruce Willis. Oh, sorry! He’s still alive, right?

4. Transcendence

Your soul either quickly or gradually dissolves and all your beliefs and memories are erased. The pure soul rejoins the sea of consciousness from which it was born. You’re like a tiny drop of water released by a heavy dark cloud floating above the middle of an ocean. After spending your life in the shadows of this material plane, it’s now time for you to be reunited with the collective.

5. Transmigration (or Metempsychosis)

Your soul is caught in the cycle of rebirth. Depending on the accumulated karma, each soul rises or falls from lower to higher life forms (and may even be reborn in objects). The cycle continues eternally until your soul attains the highest realization.

6. Awakening

Your soul arrives in the light. You experience awakening and see with complete clarity for the first time. You realize the truth of existence that was masked by being in a physical body. You enter Nirvana where Buddha and Kurt Cobain are chanting mantras to the tune of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

7. Dissolution: Eternity is nothingness

As the chemical components of your body return to basic atoms and molecules, the consciousness created by the brain disappears completely. You are no more. Nothing, nada, zilch, zip!

Find Out For Yourself!

Your soul is confused to the point of spiritual illness. You read and hear so many things, but you just can’t seem to decide on which one to put your faith upon. You wonder why so many people want to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die. Perhaps it would be better if you just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show or maybe find out for yourself if what they are saying is true.

Decades later, the little boy who thought he was going to have a party in hell with the devil, grew up to become a fairly decent man and can even be described, according to one of his friends, as a cosmic comedian - fighting to save humanity from eternal torture and damnation. Give my regards to Satan.

Great post! Comedic, enlightened and brief.

I agree with # 8 Non Identification. Higher can see lower, but lower can't see higher.True enlightenment comes from balance.

We have to live in two worlds, internal (esoteric) vs. external (exoteric). Then the problem becomes not being Identified with either. A very difficult starting point.

By being externally good leaves out the other side of the equation and vice versa.

By not being caught by either, places one front row centre, at the best vantage point for learning. Then something higher will recognize you and toy with you much like an angler with a prize fish. You will have temptation and reward. imagine that?

Hi Ryhen,

Loved the post and retweeted it. I believe that there are multiple dimensions in which the spirit passes then dwells, and that the dead walk among us.

This is a very well authored piece on what is a timeless dilemma for most people'

As you so clearly examine, that if hell, in all its pretense and purposes does exist would be an after life in some form or fashion. Your piece provokes more thought in my mind in regards to questions I've mulled over hundreds of times.
"In what physical entity as opposed to a metaphor will the events in Hell adhere to?
How will hell evolve? Will the the Earth simply engulf the unfortunate into a fiery belly of fire and brimstone, or once the sanitized souls are resurrected and extracted, the remaining are left to ride the no longer orbiting earth into the sun? Or is hell a manifestation that will thrive eternally within the soul?

The possible contexts of the afterlife you explore are definitely scenarios to be seriously contemplated when pondering the possibilities of an afterlife.
A very good read.

You are pretty funny and I like your metaphors. Spiritually advanced souls always possess a great sense of humor. I learned a long time ago that life is to be lived and experienced. I kind of feel sorry for the folks who are so afraid of going to hell that they never live life. I do believe we are immortal spiritual beings. and we exist because God loves us and wills it.

I'm with the Emoo Cow on this one, Ha-ha. A delightful read as usual, and I must say that I have totally scratch the Number 1:Heaven and Eternal Paradise ending from my list. It sounds so oversimplified and infantile, even.

As for transmigration, I'm positively sure if I'm reincarted as a donkey, I wouldn't have the awareness to give a shat about my karma (I'd just poo anytime I need to, anywhere I want).

I'd just Hee-Haw, chew grass, mate and chew some more and if I am a male, get exempted from the act of giving birth, go through all the motion without giving a rat's ar*e whether my donkey-karma is looking good or not.

Hi there, Ryhen,
Another exceptional posting. Your site has indeed been a worthwhile discovery.
Personally, I don't do religion. I'm here movin' and groovin', having a good time, and trying to be a kind, considerate human.
However, if there is reincarnation, knowing my luck, I'll come back as a used toilet brush. A very 'emooving' blog.
With peace and respect, Gary:-)

There's two kind of death: 1 your soul leaving body 2 becoming a new person. Going to Heaven is a spiritual thing and the kind of death you die; you leave the old bad person you used to be (sleeping around, a thief, smoker, ect) and became the new person. So the old person is dead... even though you’re still alive. Then when your soul leaves your body, the soul will enter Heaven which is joining your beloved here in sprit. Same as some of what you said in No.3 The Spirit World
Another good but not easy to understand example is “Being born again” how do you get to be born again?
Anyway to cut a long story short,I just wanted to share what I know and believe in... I know we all have different believes and respect that.
Thanks Ryne for another very good article

Ryhen,

You ROCK! You are a SmartAss Buddha...I personally believe that we are here (and keep coming back) until we learn the lessons we signed up for back at Heavenly Hills Angelic nudey camp. But i also learned that i don't know much except that the universe is a fascinating place. (also if i were going to hell i think i would have gone about 5 years ago.)

Wow! Incredibly entertaining, humorous and insightful. I think I'm down there spiritually entangled with Mr. Moo Cow. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve, and hope it doesn't transcend before you have the opportunity to unleash it.

Moooooo-dah!

Seriously, who can resist the cow? (Yak? Yakety-yak, don't talk back?)

Personally, I'm terrified of dying, because I'm pretty sure it's my Karmic fate to come back as a redwood tree. (a) For not appreciating my height and my huge feet, I will grow 300 ft. tall and put out roots half my height. (b) For the sin of impatience, I will live 300 years while small, annoying, chattering woodland creatures make their homes in my branches and poop on my face.

Alternatively, I see a rather Catholic view of Purgatory, in which I am consigned to sweep the back alleys of Heaven for three-hundred years with an old straw pushbroom missing all but three straws.

God should've given me a less vivid imagination, but I'm thankful He/She/It didn't.

Hey Rhyen! Thanks for following me on twitter!!

Love the site and love this article. It is soooo confusing to be met with so many versions of "afterlife" isn't it? Especially when they all say that THEY are the only truth, yet they all seem to say the same, or at least similar things..

Hi everyone I'm really sorry for you lot i really am - living your life wondering where you will go after, but no! now i stop to think that's a bit uncharitable -sorry all, but you see I am a believer, I KNOW that there is no afterlife for me because I am not going to die. That's hard you know, every day, well I exaggerate, once every few years I 'meet' someone with your humour and talent Ryhen, and wonder what the hell I am doing here. Go well, take care everyone.
